The Making of Frida Kahlo Calavera

Frida Kahlo Calavera by Wink Artisans

MAKING A FRIDA -  She came out gorgeous!  I say (type) that with all the humility in the world. This piece was over a year in the making. I just was not able to find the right design balance to make it work on metal.  Every step of the way was a challenge to convey a Frida likeness. Most difficult was the the last flower, the center one, which kept braking and cracking... what a bitch it was.  I broke two flowers, and three drill bits, and to file several times to make it work. I'm not going to lie, I cried out of frustration, and cursed some (QUE LA CHINGADA!) but soon cleared my mind to tackle the challenge head on and finish the piece.
"Si actúas como si supieras lo que estás haciendo, puedes hacer lo que quieras."
- Frida Kahlo

I'm happy with the end result. I guess the cursing needed to take place for it to work. True story!

Below are some pix of the process. Enjoy!

First Cut on Silver.

Second Cut.

Soldered headband and unibrow.

Lastly, I added the flowers and a chain.
