INSPIRATION FOR AZTEC EMBLEM

I'm always asked as to what inspires me to do the work I do and to be honest there is no grandiose answer to that. I do what I see, vibrant and rich colors move me, but more that that, I like details and ornate work. I can spend hours working on on something, adding details, and more details.

In 2008, I was doing research for a Day of the Dead necklace for one of my classes, I came upon an image of a blue anthropomorphic creature that just would not leave my mind. Of course I did more research and found out it is commonly known as the "Scorpion Constellation" and its part of the Cacaxtla Murals about 50 miles from Mexico City.

Up to this day, I have that image by my desk and often admire it. It took me over 18 months to finally create something from it. Then it hit me, I was to use the belt piece and create the Aztec emblem pendant. Changes were minimal and the metal of choice was sterling silver. It is a majestic piece indeed.
